Why was Thomas Wentworth, the Earl of Strafford, executed in May 1641? 

Thomas Wentworth, Earl of Strafford, was impeached for the charge of “endeavouring to subvert the fundamental laws and government...and to introduce an arbitrary and tyrannical government against law.” (Watson 108). This charge led to his death in 1641.  Why was Thomas Wentworth impeached and executed? To answer this question one must assess his personality, his political position and ultimately his allies.
